City Departments

There are many ways the City of Mayer services the community. The following are the major departments of the City, including a description of their main functions. 

Administration - Responsible for overall city operations. 

Building - Overseas all residential and commercial building permits issued within the City limits. 

Engineering - Responsible for planning, design, management and construction of the City's infrastructure, including streets, storm, sanitary, water and street lighting. 

Emergency Management - to build, sustain and improve the community's capacity to mitigate against, prepare for, respond to and recover from threatened or actual disasters, whether natural or man-made or acts of terrorism. 

Finance - Provides accounting and control services for all financial activities of the City. 

Fire - Serve as first responders to fires, public safety, medical emergencies and disasters. 

Planning and Zoning - Responsible for adhering to the City's Comprehensive Plan, Zoning Code, and Subdivision Regulations. 

Police - Responsible for all safety and emergency activities in the City. 

Public Works - Oversees and coordinates all activities associated with the operation and maintenance of the City's infrastructure and facilities. The Department is responsible for maintaining the City's streets, trails, storm sewers, water mains, and sanitary sewer systems and facilities. The Department is also responsible for the City's open spaces, buildings, parks, compost site, vehicles and equipment.
