Public Works Supervisor

Public Works Supervisor Position Advertisement

The City of Mayer is accepting applicants for the full-time Public Works Supervisor position, represented by the Local 49 Union. Reporting directly to the City Administrator, the selected candidate will oversee the operations of the Public Works Department, including Streets, Parks, Water, Sewer, and Storm Sewer systems, while supervising the Public Works Utilities Operator position. This role involves planning, directing, and coordinating daily maintenance, infrastructure projects, and regulatory compliance, as well as assisting with budget planning and capital improvements.

We seek a proactive leader with strong supervisory skills, technical expertise, and a commitment to public service. The ideal candidate is detail-oriented, adaptable to changing priorities, and capable of maintaining effective relationships with staff, residents, and external partners. A positive attitude and the ability to address challenges constructively are essential for success in this dynamic role.

Minimum Qualifications:

• Valid MN Class D Driver’s License.
• Valid Class C Water License.
• Valid Class C Wastewater License; or, in-lieu of a Class C Wastewater License Requirement:
• Three years experience holding a valid S Wastewater Collections License of any type (S-A, S-B, S-C, S-D).

Desired Qualifications:

• Previous experience in a supervisory role.
• Valid Class B Wastewater License.
• Valid Class A Wastewater License.

Requirements for Continued Employment:

•          Must obtain Class A Wastewater License. The time constraint required to obtain the license will depend on the qualifications of the applicant at the time of hire. Such time constraint will be the minimum required to obtain all licensures through Class A (see MPCA guidelines for exam requirements), based upon incoming qualifications, plus one year.
•          Must obtain Certified Pool Operator License within 2 years of hire.
•          Must obtain MN Class B CDL License within 1 year of hire.

• Must obtain Type IV Biosolids Operator License within 1 year of hire.

Starting Pay: $37.72/hour to $50.19/hour, depending on qualifications.
